Goodbye Summer - Hellow Behaviour Problems

Now we are heading into autumn, fairweather cats will be spending more time inside. This can exacerbate existing problems or cause new ones.

  • Tension can rise in multi-cat households as there becomes more competition for space and the best resting areas.

  • This tension can lead to an increase in territorial behaviours such as aggression between the cats or urine marking inside.

  • There may be increased pressure around litter trays as cats are more reluctant to pee or poo outside in cold or rainy weather.

  • Furniture scratching can get worse if they usually scratch on fence posts or tree stumps.

  • Cats can feel more irritable if they are unable to retreat from sources of stress inside the home (some people, dogs, household renovations etc.) so you may see an increase in aggression.

  • They can get up to mischief if they are missing out on the stimulation they are used to from the outside world.

  • This is a great time to review your home environment to check all of your cats needs are being met inside. Think stimulation and resources!

  • If you’re lucky your cat will enjoy the fireplace or the central heating and will love the cooler months until spring returns
